"Introduceing friends to each other" is something i do a lot and call "friend retiring". It's been a long running joke of mine the last ten years. So much GREAT advice in this post.
All good advice. I would add that it’s important to try to remain in touch with longtime friends, even if they reside in a distant state or you have lost touch with them for a while. Most people you meet as you age will want superficial contact. I miss late nights with friends talking about everything and nothing over weak coffee at Denny’s.
This is all excellent advice. I'll add that the best pieces of advice on friendship as an adult I ever received were:
1) Sometimes the way to be part of the community you would love to be a part of is to be the one to start it
2) Don't judge whether people want to be friends with you on whether they reciprocate on a completely 1:1 basis. If you invite some friends to do something and they come but then they don't invite you to something in return, don't take that (automatically, in isolation) as them not wanting to be friends. invite them to do something again. If they accept and come again, then it might just be that they aren't the planning or gathering type but would gladly be your friend. They're accepting your invitations and choosing to do things with you, after all!

COMPLETELY agree on both counts and could write a whole piece on the second point… great advice!
Truthfully would love more info on the second point. Feels like this is a big problem to me and I think I take it far too personally.
